After a very successful pilot study, the City of Clare elected to move forward with a full scale Webitat treatment upgrade to its 0.6 MGD plant. The wastewater treatment plant is permitted for 11 mg/L effluent ammonia from May 1st through October 31st. Prior to the Webitat upgrade, the plant struggled to meet permit by the first of May each year. In December of 2011, despite decreasing temperatures, sixteen modules were installed into two lagoons over a two day period. Effluent ammonia levels reached 8 mg/L by mid-March and continued to decrease throughout April. By May 1st, the effluent ammonia levels were well below 5 mg/L.
