Advanced Biofilm Treatment System Installed at Tillamook Bay Area Wastewater Facility

Tillamook Bay is renowned for its pristine coastal waters, thriving oyster beds, and the lush dairy country that has made the region famous. Protecting that legacy depends, in no small part, on the quiet work happening at local wastewater facilities. In December 2025, the Tillamook Bay WWTP took a meaningful step forward in that effort with the installation of a floating WavTex SFF system for improved effluent quality.

The facility needed to remove an additional 18 lb/day of ammonia to meet the required effluent standards. WavTex was a cost-effective option to get this small town to its goal without needing huge infrastructural changes.

Entex Technologies supplied two floating WavTex modules deployed directly within the facility’s existing 0.042 MGD lagoon. Each module is comprised of EnTextile media sheets tethered to a stainless-steel base with integral coarse bubble aeration grids for biofilm scour. The system is designed to meet the water quality targets listed below. Entex Technologies’ lagoon-based systems can be configured for either floor-mounted or floating deployment, depending on site conditions. Where lagoon floor conditions are uncertain – whether due to variable sediment depth, soft or unstable substrates, or limited site history – a floating configuration offers a distinct advantage, eliminating the need to fully characterize the floor and avoiding complications that could arise from an unknown or inconsistent bottom. At the Tillamook Bay WWTP, the floating configuration was selected to maximize installation confidence and long-term reliability. The WavTex modules are engineered for minimal disruption during installation and ease of operation. A dock-style float frame – 16 feet wide by 20 feet long – keeps each unit stable at the water surface, while the frame positions the EnTextile media sheets approximately 6 inches below the waterline, where biological treatment occurs. Aeration drop pipes and extension legs remain just above the surface for convenient access and maintenance. Entex also supplied two new 10 HP positive-displacement blower packages as part of this upgrade.

For a region where clean water is both an economic and ecological cornerstone, installations like this represent the kind of infrastructure investment that protects Tillamook Bay for generations to come.
