A chicken processing plant’s wastewater treatment lagoon during and after the installation of six floating WavTex modules is shown in the photos below.
The existing floating aerators did not provide enough mixing or treatment capacity, resulting the thick, crust in the photo and insufficient ammonia removal.
During Installation – May 2019
After Installation – October 2019
To prevent effluent ammonia surcharges, reduce odor, and alleviate the crust formation, six floating WavTex modules with EnTextileTM media sheets were installed in the lagoon in May 2019. They came complete with integrated coarse bubble aeration grids that are suspended from floats near the bottom of the lagoon, optimizing oxygen transfer and mixing. Further, the biology living on the high surface area EnTextile media sheets significantly increased the capacity for BOD and ammonia removal.
The WavTex modules have provided dramatic improvements. This can be seen visually by the absence of crust in the bottom photo (taken just 6 months after the top photo)! These results are also evident numerically – last summer (their high season for production) was the first summer ever that they had no effluent ammonia surcharges. Odor near the lagoon has also been significantly reduced.
